Locating: learning new weaving processes
Throughout this unit I have been using a double cloth weave structure. This was a challenge from the very beginning of the project because I wanted a wide cloth using a high EPI yarn, thus making the warp and threading took me over twice as long as it would normally. However, I throughly enjoyed having two cloths to work with and I think that the outcomes are very interesting. Secondly, I have had the added new experience of using the Texel loom. Previously, using Scotweave to design my structures for the arm loom meant that I could really get a feel for what the finished cloth would look like before it was woven. At the beginning of the project I thought that not being able to use this software would be a hinderance, however, I now think that drawing out my double cloth structures by hand has forced me to look at the structure in a more detailed way and therefore giving me a better understanding of the technical information.
