At the 11th Hour, on the 11th day on the 11th Month, after four bloody years of ferocious fighting, the First World War ended. World War I was seen as the war to end all wars and that it would solve all the world's problems...However not only did it not solve those problems but added more to the point where we still deal with it's effects to this day. Here we see a French soldier in No Man's Land. A field were millions of soldiers were slaughter, and the stalemate of the Western Front was known for. He finally stands in it. No guns, no shells, no bombs going off and wonders what the future has in stake.

Our President’s Shame
WARNING - This post contains images of war some may consider graphic. All images are from the National Archives of the United States and can be readily accessed there.
I’m running out of words to describe how much the current President of the United States shames this nation. Today, on the centenary of the armistice which ended World War I, the date that literally created Veteran’s Day, on which we honor the lives lost 100 years ago in a bloody, vicious, vindictive war and do our best to keep the memories of those fallen alive that we may not repeat the errors of our past, Donald Trump has committed an act of desecration of the memories of our lost and a slap in the face to those veterans who lived by cancelling his trip to a cemetery dedicated to these soldiers in France...because of a little bad weather.
President Trump,
Many of the men who lay buried in those graves, the men you chose to ignore so you could hide inside where it’s warm, died face down in the mud. They languished in trenches, their corpses freezing as rigor mortis set in as wave after wave of young men threw themselves over the top of the trench in futile attempts to regain inches of No Man’s Land. They experienced pain beyond imagining as their lungs blistered and they choked to death on their own body due to mustard gas. When the European snow set in, they could not retreat to a nice hotel and bask in the glory of attention that you so desire. They had to stick it out, knowing that they had already lost most of their friends to this war in a country oceans away from their home.
You are a small, small man.
You did not have the compassion, the conviction, or the mere human decency to honor them because of a little discomfort, a little bad weather.
You do not deserve to honor them.
You have shown your true colors. As the son of a long line of veterans, who today works with veterans of the Vietnam War, I am so ashamed to even think that you lead our troops today.
This war, which you in a tweet said you looked forward to “celebrating” cost this country and this world so much. In England, for example...J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, fought for the British in the trenches. He had five friends, all of whom were poets, writers, and artists of equal talent to him, almost all of whom were killed. Tolkien survived and brought rich stories to life that delight people to this day...imagine a world where the rest had also survived. What would they have created? In the US, how many people who could have truly made America great were killed, their contributions torn from us? When we lose someone in war, we not only lose the person but what that person could become. This is why we mourn the useless loss of The Great War.
You have clearly shown how little you understand of sacrifice.
Veterans,
Remember this moment. Remember how little President Trump cares about you. Remember the excuses. “It wasn’t safe to land the helicopter. It would have been just too hard to plan a motorcade.” This is the President of the United States, leader of the free world. If he had really wanted to be there, honoring the veterans who came before you, he would have found a way to be there. Remember this excuse from a sham of leader when he looks a family of a lost soldier in the eyes and tells them, “Thank you for your sacrifice,” and remember just how hollow his words are. He will claim he cares about our veterans, as he cuts benefits to those who return today from the home front.
Remember this next election, when he parades around in the costume of a caring individual. He doesn’t care. He will cloak himself in the American Flag, meanwhile defiling what that flag means.
Remember the fallen, and remember those who survived.
Because we know that the President does not.
Happy Veteran’s Day.
“Neither she not William could speak - they had no breath left in them to speak; but every now and then as they shambles along they turned their hot faces to look at each other, a beloved countenance red with exertion and damp with perspiration...while their world crumbled about them and Europe thundered and bled.” -from Cicely Hamilton’s WILLIAM AN ENGLISHMAN, about a British couple honeymooning in Belgium who find themselves unexpectedly thrust into the horrors of WW1. Written in 1918 by a woman working on the front lines, it passionately illustrates the futility of war. On #armistaceday #veteransday we remember those who fought and sacrificed for freedom, and the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice agreement that ended WW1 #lestweforget 📚✌️✒️ PEN: Pilot Stargazer F nib.
