Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I really love explaining aromanticism and asexuality to people
I agree on principle that we shouldn't have to give a whole lecture every time we come out. But whenever it happens to me, I usually enjoy it
Like, I get to spend time talking about my experiences and my feelings, to someone who seems genuinely interested. And I get to walk away feeling like I did a good thing for our community
Yes, people's questions are often ignorant. But I've never minded that. They're supposed to be ignorant, they literally don't know anything. And I get to be their introduction into this cool new world of a-spec identities
All this is my personal perspective, of course, but I can't be the only one who feels this way
#perhaps the one thing i dislike about it is the balancing act#between 'i must accurately represent all the tiny nuances of a-spec identities'#and 'i don't want to infodump a million new vocab terms onto this person'#that aspect can be tough#and i'll sometimes walk away wondering if i did it justice#but other than that it's great#aromantic#aromantic discussion#aroace#asexual#asexuality#ace#aro#aromanticism#my random thoughts
