The Corrupted King Ars Veruna
Ars Veruna served as the king of Naboo at 46–33 BBY.
He was presented in red royal colours and we can also see a Naboo royal crest on the red curtain, underlining his position.
Veruna's reign, although it coincided with the opening up of Naboo to the outside galaxy (and was marked by the construction of Kwilaan Starport in the city of Keren, a holo of it is seen on the left and he established a vast royal library collection in a tower at the back of the Theed Royal Palace, symbolised by books on the right), was not fondly remembered by the people of Naboo. As a result, legislation that limited monarchs to two four-year terms was passed. Ironically, Veruna was succeeded by the popular Queen Amidala, who won popular support enough to serve past the two established terms, though she ultimately refused.
A proponent of Naboo's greater integration with the rest of the galaxy, Veruna's political career was heavily financed and guided by Hego Damask II, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Plagueis. Veruna was dogged by accusations of corruption in the final year of his reign and ultimately clashed with Plagueis. Veruna formed an alliance with Gardulla the Hutt, the Bando Gora, and Black Sun in an effort to salvage his position and to assassinate Plagueis. (All of those 'associates' are seen on left, the painter also added Nute Gunray.) However, the assassination attempt failed, and terrified of retribution, Veruna abdicated and fled into hiding. Tracked down by Plagueis, Veruna was murdered by him shortly afterwards.
