The Art of Creation:
I am a magician. A wizard, of sorts. Perhaps you are too. Perhaps like me you are a creator of the physical. Of things that can be held. I call it magic, what we do. Turning ideas into physical objects, turning the ethereal into something concrete. To us it is simply something we do, but it deserves more respect than simple acknowledgement.
We join materials. Wood, paper, iron or steel, cloth and wool. Our hands weave shapes from their supple forms, spinning figures out of the air and into reality. We pluck and pick and thread with our tools, our instruments giving rise to bodies or scenes or buildings. Under our hands dreams are given life.
I imagine magic to be much the same. A form of unity between technical understanding, will power and art. It is this combination of attributes that makes our work so wondrous and remarkable. We understand our materials behaviours and properties, the strengths and limits of our tools, ourselves even. We have such phenomenal strength of will, to take the matter of our surroundings and impart our own vision upon it until it echoes our intentions. We are artists, it is simply the nature of us.
I should like, if magic is real, for it to be a combination of science and art. Something with rules but without rigidity, something predictable but open to change. It would be an ideal system in my eyes. The freedom of the arts paired with the learning of the sciences. In such a world we are as close to sorcerers as we could ever be.
