“Her gray eyes clear, the goddess Athena answered, "Down from the skies I come to check your rage if only you will yield.”
-Homer, The Iliad
Phil Jimenez created the look of the goddesses for this series by Kelley Sue DeConnick, which retells the story of the Amazons and how Hippolyta became their queen, but he's not the only artist on the title as I believe each issue will have a different
#2 shows us another take on them, courtesy of the mighty Gene Ha. His detail work is not quite so insane, but there's a warmth to it that shifts the tone without reducing the characters in any way.
His take on Aphrodite frequently draws deliberate attention to her posing in the Golden Spiral
And his Artemis is just.... breathtaking.
A feral child (and yet stil absolutely a goddess) who is as much a part of the natural world as she is a being in her own right. The goddess of the hunt, wild animals and vegetation, who phases in and out of her surroundings because she IS the surroundings too.
She's like an optical illusion in three dimensions...
