This was going to be a reply but I decided that it was kinda off topic and it would be better as my own post. Perhaps nobody will read. Perhaps it will go viral from the vicious dunks to be posted in response. Perhaps some reasonable person will tell me that I am being very silly.
Donald Trump is currently 79. His father did live to be 93, so it’s not impossible that Donald Trump makes it 20 more years. Improbable but not impossible. But Trump is an old man and nobody would really be surprised if he died tomorrow. Trump has functioned on a cult of personality that seems unlikely to transfer lossless to Vance or anyone else, and the margins are slim already.
The economy is barely holding together and it’s a known bubble as it is, doomed to either pop and pull the entire world into a recession, or somehow succeed… by creating mass unemployment, pulling the world economy into a recession as consumers have no money to spend due to being unemployed/underemployed and paying thousands of dollars per month to live indoors, not to mention food.
That said, I am pretty sure that the next president is going to use every single exploit used by Trump and more, regardless of their political affiliation; Gavin Newsom’s gerrymandering project demonstrates well that every politician is perfectly happy to use every underhanded tool available, regardless of their affiliation.
The current thirst from the left-libs to enact widespread artesianal and institutional violence on the working class Republican voters should not be underestimated. The rank and file blues have been ramping themselves up for five years to see the continued existence of their working class red team neighbors as an existential threat. They have been preparing (both psychologically and in the sense of stockpiling munitions) to enact “retaliatory/preemptive” mass violence and terrorism for years.
There are calls to rewrite the US Constitution, but if the constitution is rewritten, it will be in blood and with the express intention of suppressing rights and centralizing power rather than protecting rights and distributing power, regardless of who does it.
Perhaps the US military will stomp on the would-be revolutionaries. Perhaps they will be the “revolution.” Certainly, the enemies of the United States are delighted by this unrest and encourage it, and will take advantage of any opportunity created by homefront conflict.
Maybe this friction of generational transition and the continuation of history will blow over quickly with relatively few dead and minimal disruption. One can hope. But maybe North America will become a charnel house (Neither Canada nor Mexico will be able to remain aloof in the event of a failed American state, mass refugees, or warlords attacking over the border) while the rest of the world wars as the countries that were held in check by America power grab their slice of the multipolar world, and millions starve without the calories from the unplanted and unharvested American farmland.
