His Semblance is meant for traversal, not combat. It would have served much better for exploration, at least, if he hadn’t focused on the offensive potential. Much like his own dreams of becoming a scientist were pushed aside, the task his Semblance is best suited for is relegated to a secondary priority.
Spark-stepping represents, in part, what he could have excelled at, if life had been kinder.
Though it took (will take) her a long time to discover, her Semblance is Technopathy, the ability to communicate with and command any sufficiently advanced technology. This is reflective of the fact that she desperately wants to be sure that she is in control of herself. The fear that her actions are only dictated by programming terrifies her.
Anchor Point represents what he was searching for throughout his life, a point of consistency and stability. Though he found this in his family, after they died, he was left adrift, and needed to learn to rely solely on himself once again.
