I went to bed last night, certain that I had loaded a joke in the queue. The joke I thought I had loaded was the one about the spiders, but apparently that one was from the day before. Long weekend threw me for a loop. In any case, day’s not up yet for me (Sorry for my european followers, if any), so here’s today’s joke. Tomorrow’s is definitely in the queue already. Apologies.
“Though Rilke was concerned with diagnosing the causes of what he saw as man’s spiritual destitution, he was primarily a poet, and the poem was for him very much the ‘thing made’ of the word’s Greek root: poiema. He was intrigued by the plastic arts and deliberately adopted the sculptural term l’argile (clay) to describe his medium: language. He regarded it not as a tool for the making process but as virtually tangible raw material. He required us to look at his poems as we do at Rodin’s statues or at a potter’s artefacts: not as mere second-hand replicas of the real, but as things in themselves with their own intrinsic reality, their own life.”
