NeON Arts Grants - Deadline to Apply August 31, 2018
NeON Arts is a project of the Neighborhood Opportunity Network that offers young people in New York City the chance to explore the arts through projects in a variety of disciplines, including dance, music, theater, visual arts, poetry, and digital media. NeON Arts is seeking artists and art organizations to implement projects in seven neighborhoods across New York City. Programming is available in seven communities which connect local residents to opportunities, resources, and services provided by businesses, community organizations, and government agencies in their neighborhoods. NeON Arts funds and supports New York City artists and organizations who partner with NeON communities to deliver arts projects that help young people develop creative, social, and emotional skills, and build positive peer relationships. All artists and arts organizations are selected by local NeON stakeholder groups, which comprise people on probation, DOP staff, key members of the community, and local businesses. Artists and arts organizations are selected to receive grants by local NeON stakeholder groups comprising DOP staff members, individuals on probation, key members of the community, and local businesses. There are four grant rounds: Winter, Spring, Summer Internship Intensive, and Fall. For the Winter, Spring, and Fall rounds, the grant amount awarded will be up to $15,000 per NeON. For the Summer Internship Intensive round, the grant amount awarded will be up to $8,000 per NeON. If you are selected to receive a grant for more than one NeON, you will be awarded a separate grant for each NeON for which you are selected. Applicants are welcome to apply to more than one round of NeON Arts, and to more than one NeON within each round. If your grant application is not selected, you will have the opportunity to apply again when future rounds are announced. Are you an individual artist or arts organization that is interested in implementing art projects in community and justice settings?
Do you have previous experience working in justice settings?
Do you have previous experience working with youth?
Is your work conducted in at least one of the five boroughs of New York City?
Are you available to collaborate with NeON Arts staff and NeON stakeholders to plan, implement, and execute an arts project?
Do you have relevant experience in completing similar projects?
Are you able to work with NeON stakeholders to recruit participants from the NeON community?
Do you have previous experience working in the NeON neighborhood in which your proposed project will take place?
Are you able to plan and produce a final public event that allows participants to share their work and accomplishments with their community?
Can you submit a proposal that includes goals and outcomes for participants?
Artists and arts organizations from the seven NeON neighborhoods (Brownsville, East New York, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Staten Island, Harlem, Jamaica, and South Bronx) are strongly encouraged to apply to work in their respective neighborhoods.
All applicants are strongly encouraged to participate in the pitch presentations at the NeON(s) to which they are applying, even if they have applied in the past.
You do not have to be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization or have a fiscal sponsor to apply.
Partnerships can be valuable to the success of NeON Arts projects. While it is not required, applicants are encouraged to explore partnerships with organizations both within and outside of the arts.
NeON stakeholder groups value projects that will have an impact on the participants, the NeON, and the surrounding community.
