PERSONALITY

Bubblegum sweet and driven by social energy, Arturo is the sort who thrives best around other people, especially when he gets attention. They’ve got a bright mind and a quick wit but one of the biggest hearts that often bursts forth, especially around those in their closest circle. Arturo is the sort of person who is always going to cheer you on and find the bright light in every situation, though he doesn’t always turn the kindness towards himself. He can tend towards perfectionism from time to time, but never expects the  same of others, instead seeing the beauty and the art in everything. He’s got a romantic streak a mile wide and he loves to see others happily in love and dreams of it for himself, but not enough to stop and smell the roses for long enough to actually pick them.

BACKGROUND / BIO

Born six years after his next oldest sibling, Arturo is the true baby of the Vasco family. His parents, Hector and Adriana, moved to Merrock from Mexico with Adriana’s mother after the birth of their second child and settled down roots as an established salesman and seamstress. Even as a young child, Arturo was fascinated by watching his mother sew for other people and as he got older, she bought him his own machine both to practice and to help her for an additional allowance. As the youngest and the baby, they were always a bit spoiled but never enough to become bratty or entitled, just enough to know their worth and crave the best things- and to have a stubborn commitment to chasing after what they wanted.

Middle school and high school were some of the hardest years for Arturo but also where he blossomed. As someone who stood out in interests, sometimes they were an easy target for bullies, but in a small town like Merrock, it was hard to sustain a nasty attitude if you surround yourself with good friends. He found a ragtag group of friends across various social groups and became invaluable on giving fashion advice before dates or helping to alter dresses for formal events- as well as assisting with costuming for the drama club events. 

After high school, he was fortunate enough to study fashion and merchandising in New York City, as long as he agreed to minor in business to appease his parents’ desire to ensure he had some sort of stability in his life. On one hand, Arturo loved big city life, on the other hand he felt he could have more of an immediate impact in Merrock. So, after obtaining his degree, he decided to head back home, while it was a tough call to pack up and leave behind friends and a boyfriend, he knew that going home was the right thing and that pursuing his dreams was more important than being swept up in romance. The fact that his parents and grandmother were getting a bit older definitely played a factor, but he was more than glad to be closer to home.

It wasn’t long until he found a job working at Bella’s boutique, where he put down roots and became an established salesperson. They loved selling clothes, as it gave a chance to indulge in two of their biggest passions: fashion and people. Always one to dream big, though, they also took on outside work as a stylist and occasionally even designed dresses for local friends. Now, after about a decade back home, he’s established a friend group full of creatives, innovators, and some of the sweetest folks around Merrock.
