ASAL Chapter 2 Preview

Hey! So chapter 2 of ASAL is heading into last editing stages and I’m hoping to get it up by next week (fingers crossed), so here’s a little preview in the meantime:

“...I m-meant what I said yesterday,” Rando said. “I know you’re strong. And I understand you can carry yourself well with a weapon, b-but—” Rando felt for something in the bag strapped behind his pants, then lifted a black bundle of cloth over his shoulder “—m-maybe, in future, you can avoid situations like that with this.”

Buddy took the bundle. There was something hard in the center. She let the fabric spill away to reveal a horned red skull.

Buddy stared at the mask and thought of dead white flowers. Of dark fabric smothering her face. Of her hand wrapped in a manacle of hard muscle.

Of five pairs of leering eyes.

Still, Buddy felt a tiny flame of pride. She’d been called strong by Rando. Strength recognises strength. It wasn’t the praise she was hoping for, but it was enough not to make her throw away the mask outright.

That—and she had to admit it looked much cooler than her old one.

update on ASAL

Hey gang, just letting y’all know that if Chapter 1 of ASAL feels a little bit different since you last checked it, you’re not crazy and it’s not the mendela effect coming at you with a vengeance. I just went and did a grammar/prose edit in some parts that were bugging me. Big thanks to The_Idonian. She’s helped me revise and edit some trouble spots I was having and I’m very grateful for her time. (Also read her TF2 fic Sandstorm, it’s very nifty)

I am taking a little break from writing but mark my words I’m jumping back to chapter 2 after a week’s rest. I’m up to my 4th revision and can’t wait to get this out of me and introduce everyone’s favourite soft-spoken man.

In the meantime, thank you SO MUCH to people leaving tags in reblogs or commenting on the fic. It means the world and galvanises me into working hard. I hope your New Year’s was restful

first night of actually writing lisa fic! 1.4k start for a first draft, not bad at all. the trick is to turn your mind on autopilot and loop the same song over and over again. (In my case, Remember You from Adventure Time).
