I didn't touch it, put on gloves & a mask, carefully put the bottom back on and wiped down the work surface a bunch of times with rags and threw out the rags and gloves and then twist-tied the pedal in a bag. I think it should be fine in there for now, I didn't see any shed fibres.

The pedal itself is pretty rusty anyways, and the wire is damaged, so I suppose I'll just buy another one. The motor itself seems alright though.

This is from a Singer 99k that I got for $20 CAD at a garage sale a few months ago and haven't posted about yet. It'd been sitting on my table for weeks but I've finally got the machine itself decently clean and reassembled.

Besides the pedal business, the wooden case is falling apart and it'll need glueing and refinishing.
