Growing up in Tema C.9, we were told most of the armed robbers who came to terrorize our “paradise” came from ASHAIMAN. I grew up with a fear of this slum that lies to the north of Tema, and was actually home to migrants who’d come to try and find work in one of the many companies in Tema. The slum vibe is still there but Ashaiman has outgrown that poor label. Today, it is a very thriving community. In fact those who looked down on Ashaiman when I was little, may not be able to afford land there. Barka de Salah... the Eid celebrations is one of the best merry making moments in Accra. Celebrants wear their precious garments and put on the best make up for the activities.
