In regards to your gif pack server template 001, how did you manage to achieve actual spaces like this “ “ in the naming of text channels instead of it automatically converting it to be a “-“ for spaces? Thank you!
it actually doesn’t have any spaces! unfortunately the only ways to separate words in channel names are with hyphens - (which is what it will default to if you hit the spacebar), underscores _ , or special characters. however, the special characters tend to have some extra padding around them so it looks like there’s a space, even though there isn’t! if you want to add special characters to your channel names, click here, enter whichever character(s) you want to use, and copypaste from the line labeled “fullwidth.” i’ll put all the characters it works with here too if you’d rather copypaste from this:
please note we do recommend using special characters sparingly and always using plain text rather than unicode fonts for the actual words of your channel names for accessibility reasons!
Hi! I'm thinking of creating my own discord rp but I've never made one before. I know you already have some wonderful resources to offer on your page but I was wondering if you had any other resources to rec when it comes to how to best go about setting one up, what bots are best to use (and how to use them), etc? Thank you in advance 🙏
hey anon! for the most part, what we have on the blog is what we'd already recommend if you're thinking of starting up a server. this includes our various group server templates and our most used bots: tupperbox, admin bots ( reaction roles, dyno/zira/atlas, simple poll ), dice maiden and confessionbot!
linked here are quite a few tutorials on how to use most of the bots listed above, as well as other general things new admins should know upon creating a server! special thanks to both @dayslily and @sapphicrpc for providing some amazing in depth tutorials, you guys truly have taught us new things that we now use for our servers!
we hope this helps lead you in the right direction, anon, and we apologize for not having much to add on. sometimes simple is better though, so don't fret about making things fancy or adding unnecessary bots! if we're honest, a server only needs tupperbox and one admin bot to thrive. the rest is just dependent on what plot/type of group you plan on running!
Hello! Old rper trying to get back into rping. I'm having trouble finding open discord rp groups. Are there any current servers designed to help rpers find groups or partners? I've been trying to go through your suggestions but the findrps blog seems to be closed down. I'm sorry to bother you!
hi anon! you can join the findrps server by clicking right here! they don't have a dedicated blog anymore because tumblr kept deleting them. some other places you can try checking are disboard, as well as this subreddit!
Hi! Please help? How can I edit my message sent on tupperbox? I used online dashboard to set it up and I'm testing it before I use it for 1x1s but I feel so lost on editing sent messages (like for thread typos or updating character info) I'd happy send a ko-fi for any help you can give!
hi anon! so there are actually a couple different ways you can edit tupper messages, i've run through two of them below the cut! also we don't have a ko-fi so tipping isn't necessary but we do appreciate the consideration a lot <3
METHOD 1: TUL!EDIT
the first way to edit your messages is to use tupper's tul!edit function together with discord's reply feature. basically all you have to do is reply to the message you're trying to edit with tul!edit followed by what you want the new message to say, and you're good to go!
pros for this method are that you can keep any server-specific formatting used in your original message such as linking channels or @'ing people, but cons are that it will show the rest of the server a new message was sent in that channel (even if they won't necessarily know what it was because tupper will delete it).
METHOD 2: TUPPER DM
the other way -- and my personal preferred method -- is if you react to the message you're trying to edit with the 📝 emoji (listed on discord as :pencil: ), then tupper will dm you and you can reply to the dm with your edit!
pros for this one are that it's a little more private, but unfortunately if you had tagged anyone in your original message it'll break that. however, the ping from the original message will remain unless they've already looked at it, and i'm pretty sure it stays in their mentions even if it's been edited without the tag, too.
hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions!
what are some of the most quintessential channels you think a discord group needs?? i'm currently making my first server and i'm trying not to forget anything!! thanks for all that you do!!
thank you for your support! and to answer your question, here are some channels we believe are important to add to your server:
channels with info about the rp ( i.e. rules, plot, triggers, masterlist, etc )
admin announcements channel
admin q&a channel
channel dedicated to tupperbox
introductions channel ( a way for people to let members know their name, age, pronouns, etc )
general ooc chat
mun updates channel ( generally used for people who are going out of town for the weekend or are feeling ill, etc )
rp commentary channel ( we firmly believe this boosts ooc and ic interaction and keeps members engaged with other stories outside of their own )
plot and starter call channels
depending on the rp, social media channels ( instagram, spotify, twitter, group chat, etc )
events and tasks channels
and lastly, a tldr channel ( or a timeline channel that explains what has happened in the rp up until now )
we suggest that for channels such as announcements and events / tasks that you go into the channel’s permissions and make those read only ( or rather, disable the send messages feature ) so that members can only react with emojis instead of being able to post a reply. otherwise, i hope this helps and happy server making!
hi mods of discord help! i have a question: after christmas, my roleplay group has like .. died. and no matter how often i try to gather engagement through posts in the group chat or plot calls, no one responds and it's starting to make me really sad tbh. do you have any ideas on how to like spike up activity?
hey there, anon! we're sorry to hear that your rp has reached a plateau leading into the new year. believe us when we say we have been in your shoes before, and though we wish there was a definite answer regarding how to revive something that's dropped in activity, neither of us have had perfect success when it comes to trying to do exactly that.
this got a little long, so i'm putting this under a read more, but if lurkers are reading this and want to provide their two cents, please drop a reply or hop into our inbox! we'd love to hear more opinions on this.
some advice i can give you is to perhaps be a little stricter with your activity rules for a week or so, whether that means implementing activity checks instead of interest checks or you can add requirements for your members to reach in order to be eligible for interest checks. this can include posting / reacting to starter calls every other week, interacting with three different muns every week, replying to closed starters that were written for you within a week, etc. and if these aren't met, you can issue these members a warning, in which if they haven't met the activity requirements in the next 24 hours, you have the right to remove them from your server.
within this time, i suggest throwing together a mandatory task for everyone to do! this can be as simple as a muse playlist, headcanons, or making a pinterest board. people love exploring their muses, so i think this can offer some inspiration that might've been lost over holiday break!
we also love plot drops / events in this house! so perhaps creating a mini plot drop for everyone's muses to react to can boost interest! it'll give everyone a collective thing to write about and encourage plotting / starter calls.
again, these aren't going to be end all, be all solutions, since every rp is different. just know that this is a team effort and if you've done all you can do to try and recharge your server with nothing given in return, it is not your fault. an admin can only do so much and if members aren't there to put in the effort you're giving them, you're valid for feeling disheartened. but! if anything, especially if you love the concept of your rp and you don't want to give up on it, there is no harm in closing the group temporarily to then revamping it with maybe one or two fresh ideas added to the plot or application or skeletons / muses to garner new interest!
we're wishing you all the luck, anon, and sending you all the good vibes! if you'd like a shoutout for your rp, feel free to pop in our inbox again and we'd love to give one for you!
hey, for your 'social media posts' resource, i was wondering how did you put the little instagram, twitter, and spotify pictures to texts? thank you
you can access those emojis here! all you have to do is save them and then go into your server settings where you'll see on the left-hand side a category titled emoji. go ahead and click on that and it'll prompt you to upload your custom emojis from there! these emojis will pop up when you hit the emoji symbol next to where you send your messages or you can long-form type them like :emojinamehere:. we hope this helps, and let us know if you have more questions on any of the stuff we've made!
is there a bot that can randomize a name or number? like a picker wheel or something similar?
hey there! we've actually answered a similar question right here. the bots listed seem to fit the bill for what you're asking, so i hope this helps! let us know if you need anything else!
