#socialshimmy2021 Bonus challenge for @leena.viie.bellydance Let's talk props! I LOVE incorporating props into my dance. I'm often hesitant to use them, though, because I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before making a complete fool of myself. 😆 I'd have to say that sword is my favorite. I also really enjoy pots (in dances like #Fellahi), #assaya, baskets, #shamadan, veil, and Isis wings. The next dance I'll be doing will be a Saidi style dance with an assaya (cane/stick). Saidi is a folk dance from the region of the same name in Upper Egypt. Originally beginning as a type of martial arts performed by men called Tahtib (or Tahteeb, I've seen both), it evolved into a folk dance performed by both men and women, with women's involving more hip movements and generally lighter steps than the men's VERY bouncy ones. 

This is Mona El Said, performing a Saidi style dance with an assaya. I love this performance, though the video quality isn't the best. I especially love it when she basically starts headbanging at about the 5 minute mark!
