Assignment Three Development Progress
I was put into a group with Chris and Leighton, together we decided to use Chris’ game Astro Miner.
Astro Miner is a game where you must navigate a dangerous asteroid field and blow up asteroids in the hope of finding rare and valuable minerals. If you take damage you can salvage energy cells to replenish your shields, and utilize a powerful blast attack to clear large areas of asteroids.
I really love Chris’ idea for a game, its a really great concept. I was put into the role of lead artist aswell as playtesting agent. So a large part of my role in this project will be improving the graphics of the game and the implementation of the welcome screen to include a more immersive feel to the game. I’m inspired by jetpack joyride in this instance and think I can definitely do something similar to this. I think it would set the scene perfectly in this game. I also feel like I can really bring this game together with a consistent look and feel thats just what it needs.
The game loop involves flying the ship around an asteroid field, avoiding collisions with the asteroids, destroying the asteroids to find rare gems, and collecting the rare gems to increase the player’s score. The game itself would have multiple levels of increasing difficulty and reward.
