Lecture: The Association of Illustrators
I really appreciated the lecture from the AOI. They made me aware of things that are not so obvious, but are still really important. For example; moral rights, pricing of work, copyright & licensing, professionalism and how to get commissions from different areas of the creative industry.
As a result of this lecture, I am going to gather more visual information from primary sources and my own research, in order to reduce the likelihood of me (unintentionally) copying someone's work. The lecturer from the AOI suggested that we try to avoid being influenced by mainstream, popular culture. We want to maintain an individual identity in our work, that appeals to clients- something different.
The lecturer from AOI also recommended that we tailor our online portfolios to the area of the creative industry that we are interested in working for. For example; I am particularly interested in illustrating for public realm. Therefore, I will consider this when creating work and think about how I could make my work appropriate/relevant to this area.
