“NO! YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO BE MAD AT ME.” jacob insisted, wiggling his finger at the woman across from him. “i kept up MY end of the bargain and bought an overkill fancy tux. now you have to put on your best dress and come with me.” he’d been trying to convince her to be his date to some shallo-- vapid fashion show for weeks now and now was the moment he was pouncing.
@astarborn said: “Sometimes I feel like I’ll never have it together.”
“I think everyone feels like that once or twice in their life.” he offered, hand reaching out to grasp at her smaller one in a comforting gesture. “just ‘cause things ain’t goin’ the way you want them to doesn’t mean it’s always goin’ to be like that.” though he didn’t have the dreams and aspirations that ally did, didn’t mean he didn’t empathize with her. he saw the frustration and rejection she felt whenever she thought her dreams were going to come in fruition only for her to be rejected because she didn’t meet a label’s criteria. “you’re an amazing singer and songwriter, ally. you’re beautiful and amazing and if i had the power to turn ya into the next big thing, i would do it in a heartbeat. ‘cause if anyone deserves to have their voice heard by millions of people, it’s you, allison campana.”

jack had been passing the room on his way back to the dinner when he had heard it. the sound of fussing. not yet crying, but on its way towards it. earlier on, jack hadn’t spent much time holding the daughter of his friends, yet it didn’t stop him from quietly peeking his head into the room. it wasn’t long before he had scooped her out of her cot, soothing her as he settled her on his chest with his soft voice and gentle touch. it ache was still there in his chest, the same ache he had felt before when he held the little girl, the ache and the want for what he hadn’t been able to get so far. the quiet battle, the one he and ally hadn’t won so far.
it was where he was caught not that long later, having found himself sitting in the rocking chair when ally appeared in the doorway. glancing up then away, an embarrassed smile graced itself on jack’s lips as he focused his eyes on the little body resting against his chest. “she was getting fussy... thought i could watch her for a few minutes. supposed they could use the break.” he didn’t stop his gentle rocking in the chair as he spoke, knowing the game was up now that his wife had seen him.

he’d deserved her worry. jackson knew that much. after what he’d done, what he’d tried to do. it was understandable and that was the worst part of it. he understood. it had been weeks now, weeks of constantly having eyes on him, of having ally rush into a room when he’d been out of her eyesight for too long. “you said it, not me.” he agreed. that much he could say. pulling himself to his feet, he wandered to the wardrobe, stepping inside to pull on some clothes that were better for leaving the house in. shoes on and all, he stepped back out, a little hesitance to his step as wondered just how ally would react to this. “i should go into town to get us some food. we’re running low. i’ll be an hour tops. i’ll get my phone out and take it with me.”

oliver knew that a late night out would only prove to be trouble for him the next morning. his boss’ voice was loud and he was usually tired as it were, but that did not stop him from taking a smoke outside. a filthy habit he really should have rid of himself of but he hadn’t. not yet, anyhow. he was working on it. maybe. the rain began to fall, causing him to move inside, and to find shelter in the dark little establishment. he walked over to the little bar area to find himself a seat. not really on his mind to even speak to anyone until he took an open seat. “mind if i buy you a drink?” the words came out as he ran his hand through his damp curls. “sorry, a bit wet out there.”
