when jess finally clocked out from a six hour shift, he was instantly blinded by the natural light of the outside world. after a while, your eyes just got used to the low quality lighting of every aisle, and time passed by so slowly, he always forgot that it was still only around lunchtime by the time he was done. after squinting for a couple seconds, his eyes finally adjusted, and he started the walk to his car, only to be greeted by his best friend, leaning on the passenger’s door. he chuckled quietly to himself as he approached. “you gotta stop skipping school, lil,” was all he said with a shake of his head --- though it was hard to hide his proud smile.
