D&D Planar Dragons: Astral Dragon(s) (4e Lore)
Behold a Dragon, bearing the unblinking Eyes of the Sun
(Haven’t done a painting this intense in a looooong time. It was great fun!)
So, I've been looking for some time for this and I completley forgot most of the details, but do you know about a type of dragon that spent all of his time drinking and spending its hoard? I know i've heard aobut one but i can't remember its name and stuff. was there such a dragon in D&D?
There was! What you’re looking for isan Elysium dragon.
Not a native of Faerun, obviously, by its name, it was anextraplanar dragon, like the gloom or astral one.
Environment: The Blessed Fields of Elysium
Treasure: Half-standard
Alignment: Always neutral good
As for a description: it has a wide squat body and appearsobese. Extrusions of adipose-rich flesh push out of the dragon’s scales, givingit a rough, unkempt look. A spiny frill that doubles the dragon’s height runsfrom the top of its head to near the beginning of its short, thick tail. Thestink of fermented grain hands thick in the air.
Jolly and good-natured to an almost ridiculous extreme,Elysian dragons enjoy little more than bacchanalian feasts and lust-fuelledfestivals. They drink, eat, and enjoy themselves to excess. Considered by mostother true dragons as irresponsible and overly prolific, Elysian dragons breedat an alarmingly fast rate (for dragons) and sire more half-dragons than allother planar dragon kinds combined. Elysian dragons receive such criticism aslight-hearted jest and offer slurred rebuttals in kind.
Although they claim themselves protects of the tranquilpeace that pervades Elysium, Elysian dragons often seem intent only on ensuringthey – and those around them – have as many long enjoyable days as possible. From their point of view, happiness and goodness are inexorably linked andnothing promotes happiness better than inebriation and other physicalpleasures. Despite their excellent draconic metabolism, Elysian dragons tend toovereat and overdrink themselves into obesity.
The rare Elysian dragon that doesn’t immediately spend, drink, or eat any new treasure that might otherwise go into its hoard occasionallyamasses a small but respectable collection of treasures…until the next time ithosts a party. Elysian dragons tend to lair in or near towns, shrinkingthemselves when necessary in order to fit into buildings.
If attacked, or pressed into combat, an Elysian dragonalways seems offended that someone would attempt to ruin its party. When itfinally decides to defend itself, the Elysian dragon attempts to end combat as quickly–and with as little bloodshed – as possible. Unbreakably upbeat, an Elysiandragon in combat makes jokes and speaks conversationally with its opponents, usually in an attempt to bring them around to its side, but occasionally merelyout of drunkenness.
So I made the mistake of clicking over to see what this Flight Rising thing was.
Now my dragon is curled up on the couch next to me, peering over my shoulder. She's completely fascinated, and quite amused.
I just can't get over how slow the website is.
