Remember that scene where Sherlock and John are investigating the lady in

 “A Study in pink”? 

So, then Greg asks Sherlock who John is, and Sherlock replies with 

“He’s with me” 

Then Greg asks him again, because that sentence doesn’t seem to explain who john is, and Sherlock again says the same thing. 

Now, if you’ll see, The sentence could also mean that John is with Sherlock. 

In an un-platonic way, if you know what i mean. And it would explain who john was as well.
