the two of them are NOT paying attention to anybody.
no, the characters do not know these are their flags in the slightest. sophie is NOT going to call herself demisexual poly lesbian and asugi isn't going around saying he uses any pronouns and is arogay.
this is just me collecting my headcanons
Anyone from Shiro, Nina and Kana, is anyone else not cis?
this was always the intended dwyer experience also. We have discussions surrounding their rescue of Corrin from her feral dragon form where we stuck a 'maybe refer to me neutrally??' from dwyer in there, because Dwyer agenderism.
he would SO benefit from being Not Either Gender being a possibility. He tried Kana's way of things once, hated it, and retreated back.
additionally: both asugi and velouria are a big shrug regarding the gender they were assigned at birth.
Asugi's chill with going with whatever pronouns people use for him. and as far as Velouria's concerned, the pronouns she uses are I/me/myself (because that's how she refers to herself), and her parents use the terms Pup and Darling for her. Modern au, they'd probably have access to other nonbinary terms (asugi any/all pronoun user, and velouria just seeing the agender flag and going 'yeah that fits' and not changing anything else)
I've looked through some of the hoshidan festival of bonds stuff for our pairings of choice. Some of them do not apply but some of them...
... Beruka really wants her kid to have a better life, one full of choices and opportunities that she was denied on the streets. Sophie likes to study! I like this idea so I'm putting it into kidquest. So flat affect + likes to study/read.
Along with the idea that Soleil also was influenced by her mother Nyx to be interested in reading... I said they were fighting rivals before becoming friends. Turns out, it wasn't just combat rivals they were also STUDY rivals. Imagine going to the library after a frustrating encounter with your kinda-rival kinda-friend and then YOUR RIVAL IS ALSO THERE REACHING FOR THE SAME BOOK YOU ARE. HELLO! THATS YOUR HISTORICAL TOME!!
... and speaking of Soleil. Nyx!Soleil is noted to want to be a grown up like Nyx. So... when she's serious I like to think Soleil takes on a tone quite like Nyx's in an imitation of a stern tone which really doesn't fit but she's trying to pull it off.
... to put an amusing end note on this, asugi can't stand salty stuff anymore. He says he used to like it but he gets a weird look on his face about it.
asugi in the valla arc desperately searching out for anything to make sweets with once he's baked his way through most of the supplies and they can't stop by a store
how messy is the orochi divorce? i love drama
Not very messy at all. It's the same reason the Kagero/Saizo relationship fell apart in canon - they were both trying to change each other too much. For both of them, it was moreso about "taming" the other - the prickly Saizo or the trickster Orochi. And that wears out eventually. (Kagero/Orochi may have also been a factor)
So, after much waffling about it, the two split ways amicably and agree that they're better off as friends, which they do stay! (Maybe what Saizo really needs is being qpr to a throuple.)
An actual formal divorce only happens after Asugi hits the bricks, but it was a long time coming already, and it didn't really. Change anything between them.
The funniest part about this is that this means Asugi doesn't know his parents got divorced. Orochi & Kagero had their whole childhood friends to lovers thing, and depending on the status of poly marriage in Hoshido, Selkie is now Asugi's stepsister. (Selkie considers Orochi her second mom, either way). He just. Doesn't know. He doesn't fucking know!!! Selkie doesn't bring it up either when they first meet because to her knowledge her absentee stepbrother's name is "Saizo the Sixth". It takes until Selkie casually brings up her second mom Orochi for things to click into place. Asugi has a moment.
TLDR: sometimes people simply fall out of love or maybe weren't that in love in the first place and talk about it like adults 👍 leave it to some of the married people to be way worse off. (messiest relationship award definitely goes to hinoka/leo, though.)
