“you can’t even begin to imagine how much i’ve missed you.”

Ryan’s head is in her lap while she plays distractedly with his hair. Some b-grade horror movie is on in the background a la netflix, but Yen is much more interested in playing with her boyfriend's hair, instinctively yearning to help him unwind, to soothe away whatever tension and stresses of a long, long day ( hell, a long week ), she can. She runs her fingers through it, fingernails dragging soothingly along his scalp as she does. At times she applies pressure, massaging lightly, but all the while, she’s just enjoying the intimacy of the moment: kisses on the wings of collarbones, the dips of his neck and shoulder, and sighs of happiness, contentedness is like a blanket in the air tonight. His chest expands underneath her palm, and she smiles, something soft, something real. Weirdly enough, she doesn’t really expect him to say anything— thinks he's half asleep as she leans down to press a slow, dotting kiss to the top of his head, so when he does—and when it’s that—her breath stalls in her throat. It makes her chest feel heavy but warm. It’s a deeply comforting feeling, but not nearly as much as what it is Ryan says. “of course you did,” her reply is soft, teasing— her cheeks are all fire, red and flushing, her heartbeat, a wild thing, pounding inside of her chest. It’s that voice she uses for Ryan and Ryan alone, and only when it’s just the two of them. “Who wouldn't. I am the best thing that could ever happen to you.” her palm gently brushes over Ryan's face, fingertips tracing fondly across his skin. She's all haughtiness and delicate coy smiles, but her lips are pressing to the corner of his smile, kissing him softly, indulgently. Yes, she thinks; she kind of can imagine...
