Atheme & Boline Set No. 1 Brass, vintage brass casting, copper Made in Ann Arbor in June of 2018 RobertsonIndustries etsy shop
Finally found something to use as an alter!!
It was once a sewing machine, but someone ripped out the actual machine. My boyfriend eventually plans to replace the middle piece of wood here that is very damaged, but for now I'll keep it closed.
Found the alignment for the four points of the compass and the elements.
Put all my witchy tools, bos, ect on it. Got it mostly organized. I'm sure I'll always continue to play with it, but it's a start.

This is how my atheme turned out. Also made a broom.
Making My Atheme
What I used: - An oval shaped nail - A large-ish copper rivet - A Piece of wisteria branch - Solder (for electronics)
Tools: - Spirit Stove (Camping) - Hacksaw - Metal File - Dremel Multi Tool - Electric Drill - Hammer and a solid surface - Vise - Pliers
Method:
The Shape.
I used the spirit stove to heat up the nail. It won’t get it red hot, but will make it easier to flatten the nail out a bit. I kept heating, using the hammer and a solid (metal) surface like an anvil, hit the nail to make it flatter and less oval in shape.
Once I was happy with the basic shape I place the nail in the vice and used a metal file to create a diamond like profile along one half of the nail. I kept the point of the nail intact. The other half I filed into a thin square shaped tang.
The Guard.
I cut the flat head off a copper rivet, found the centre point along it and drilled a small pilot hole. Then made the hole larger to fit the tang to form a guard between the blade and what would become the handle. The hole I cut was a bit too large so I thought about heating the blade and using some solder to keep things in place better.
The Handle
I didn’t really know what to do for the handle. I thought about drilling the middle out of a pencil, but that is way more difficult that it looks and the edges of pencil became too thin and split easily. I had a piece of wisteria branch that I had kept for something, although I wasn't sure what. So, I cut a length off and drilled a hole through the middle. Using a sanding attachment on the Dremel I shaped the wood to make the handle 'better'.
Finishing
Once again I used the Dremel with a wire brush to get rid of a lot of rough bits. Then various polishing and buffing wheels to buff out any other discolourations from heating and smooth out some of the solder bumps. Then after washing it in hot soapy water I used some silver polishing cloth to make it shine. I was going to use brass polishing liquid, but it can get a bit messy, and it smells worse. Then I washed it again in hot soapy water before drying it on a paper towel.

I listened to a podcast interview with #MikeRowe this week and found his admission that he could not concentrate lately reassuring. I suppose that I can't feel to bad that I'm not a better man than he is. I find that I'm not able to do much production work, but I can lose myself in more interesting projects. Total length on this knife is 12". The blade is Damascus, that I totally did not make because I think i Damascus steel is cool and the bronze work is, of course my own. I'm 90% pleased with it, so retail of $285. DM of you are interested. #bronzesmith #flowedbronze #knife #dragonknife #atheme #cosplay #handmade
