Sleep, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall and The Muggers, Angel Olsen, Les Savy Fav and Tortoise are amongst the latest acts to be added to ATP Iceland 2016, bolstering an already impressive line-up including The Horror Master himself, John Carpenter, performing live and in person.
They join writer, poet, and musician, Anika (Invada, Stones Throw), Lebanese singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan, Blanck Mass (Benjamin John Power of Fuck Buttons), Berlin-based Argentinian duo Mueran Humanos.
Örvar Smárason & Gunnar Tynes (múm) will perform live to a screening of ‘Menschen am Sonntag’ (People on Sunday) -- a 1930 German silent film based on a screenplay by Billy Wilder. As well as comedy from critically acclaimed stand-up Stewart Lee, who will give a rare overseas performance at the festival.

ATP Iceland 2016 presents: John Carpenter performing his soundtracks live

We’re thrilled and delighted to have the legendary composer John Carpenter performing at our ATP Iceland festival in Ásbrú on July 1st-3rd 2016. John Carpenter will be performing a musical retrospective of his work, his first solo record of non-soundtrack music Lost Themes, plus brand new compositions at the festival. The Horror Master will be joined on stage by both his son Cody Carpenter, and his godson Daniel Davies (both of whom co-recorded Lost Themes), in addition to a full live band and spectacular stage production. “We are incredibly honoured to present the first ever show by this legendary film-maker and composer. Having had the opportunity to present the maestro Ennio Morricone twice in recent years, it has been a burning ambition of ours to also present John Carpenter, who is both a pioneer and a huge influence on us and so many great musicians and film-makers that we work with. You'd be fucking crazy to miss this” ATP’s Barry Hogan John Carpenter has been responsible for much of the horror genre’s most striking soundtrack work in movies he’s both directed and scored, such as Dark Star (1974), Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), Halloween (1978), The Fog (1980), Escape from New York (1981), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), and They Live (1988) to name a few. It’s work that instantly floods his fans’ musical memory with imagery of a menacing shape stalking a babysitter, a relentless wall of ghost-filled fog, lightning-fisted kung fu fighters, or a mirror holding the gateway to hell. The site is located only 5 minutes away from Iceland's main international airport, 15 minutes from the famous Blue Lagoon and 30 minutes from Reykjavík. The festival site will host two indoor stages and a cinema with films picked by ATP and the bands, as well as the usual ATP extracurricular activities like DJs, Pop Quiz and much more. All Tomorrow's Parties has been promoting festivals and concerts throughout the world for almost fourteen years. It was founded in the wake of Belle and Sebastian’s Bowlie Weekender, with Mogwai curating in the unusual setting of Pontins Holiday Camp, Camber Sands, UK. Since then the festival has appeared every year and has expanded across the globe continuing to set itself apart from large scale corporate festivals by staying intimate and fan-focused.
