I have just experienced a literally impossible mission in Final Fantasy XI. For whatever reason, this supposedly "plausible" climb up some stupid fucking mountain (with a 30 minute timer no less) is programmed so horribly that there are sections which continuously cause my character to either become stuck (and fall off trying to get unstuck) or simply cannot seem to pathfind onto the correct pixel or ground.
I am having to resort, after numerous failed attempts, to having someone else log on as me in order to try their hand. Thankfully it will be a close, personal friend who I trust.
Every time you fall off, it can take between 5-10 minutes of painstakingly slow retracing to get back. The exact length depends on where I fell off, of course. Neither of my friends had this problem, thankfully. You also go into the area with no map, so of course it's a natural maze as well as being completely fucking stupid to climb the mountain. Getting a map is also rather convoluted and will have to wait for another day.
