  “Ah-- Angie-san...” 

  It’s hard to find the right words to say to her. Considering, well, everything. He liked to think that they were friends. No. He knew they were. After all the hardship, he knew that they were all they had. No one would be able to help them, except each other. It was funny. Their backstories involved them being the last people on Earth, and it really did feel like they had gone to an entirely new world. Things were confusing and scary. He broke down, faltered, felt such regret and guilt. Sometimes he even felt like him being alive was a mistake. But all the pain hardly mattered compared to this. The bond he shared with the other survivors. Something soft and warm to keep his heart alive. He wondered if the other him had ever felt anything close to this. Probably not. Otherwise... he wouldn’t have signed up for a killing game. 

  He wasn’t the leader that Momota-kun or Akamatsu-san could be. Hell, he was hardly anything. He relied on everyone to keep him afloat. But was that so wrong? To rely on each other? They had each other, right? If they all leaned on each other, it wouldn’t be so bad. He needs to block out the bad thoughts. They still seem to linger all the time. Just like they always have. Maybe that was just part of his character. 

 A hesitant smile slips onto his face. Finding her? Just what was he to Angie, anyway? It seemed like forever ago they talked about that kind of stuff. And he’s not really sure he wants to know. But regardless, he was happy she was here with him. 

  “Thanks...” He says it softly. “... for being here with me.” 

  She had left the group to focus on her art. He knew she wasn’t far, but he did worry. And sometimes, it got too heavy for him to bear. The weight of it all. And watching Angie paint, even if he didn’t understand it fully, was calming. It didn’t matter who they were, they did exist. Together. 

  “I’m... happy.... to spend time with you.” 

  Maybe he’s being too sentimental. But regardless...

 With Doma on the road to restoration, any small mistake could be a disaster. That’s why rumors of a Primal being summoned even close to it was disturbing. Much to the annoyance of the other Scions, he agreed to look into the island on his own. He wasn’t good in political talks. Alisaie wanted to come with him, but he rejected her. He trusts her to back him up, but going to a Primal without the Echo is far too risky. He couldn’t handle losing her to tempering. And her display earlier when they faced a Primal in Ala Mhigo made him worry she may be too emotional about the entire thing. 

  Still, taking a ferry to the island proved difficult. Many people were afraid to approach. Not because the place was overtly dangerous, but because the people were strange. Not a Beast Tribe either. Just... people like him. That may have summoned a Primal or plan to. 

 From the docks of Kugane, he managed to track down one merchant that was willing to take him there. Greedy enough to risk being tempered. Apparently, the few merchants that venture to the island make good money. Bloodsuckers. Don’t care about anything but making some quick gil. But he can’t judge, nor can he complain. After all, he probably wouldn’t have been able to get there without him. He was vague on the details, however. He didn’t need some random merchant to get in his way. 

  As soon as they reach the island, he’s on his guard. It seems beautiful, honestly. But the people here could be dangerous. He didn’t exactly want to fight an entire island of tempered people, but he couldn’t rule out the possibility. But moments after breaking away from the merchant and his crew, he feels eyes on him. He had hoped the potential arrival of goods would pull attention away from him, but it never seems to work out like that. 

 His eyes rest upon a girl. Younger than him. She looked like she was smiling. He wasn’t about to let his guard down, but she didn’t LOOK dangerous. But he could sense something.... off. 

 “I’m looking for the person in charge here.” He wouldn’t offer any information unless asked. He wasn’t good at thinking of lies off the top of his head anyway. Maybe he should have brought Alphinaud.
