My Better Half

Of all the stupid things Leo Fitz had done in his twenty-seven years on this earth, this was easily the stupidest. It was the kind of stupid that warranted a slap on the head from your mom or good yelling-at by your boss. The latter of which, he had in fact received. And at no point during the lecture did it seem uncalled for. Because exactly nine days ago, when one of the lab assistants accidentally pumped his work table, knocking the terrigen crystal off... and he dove for it.
The good news was, he caught it. And the other good news was, it didn’t kill him. Unfortunately, that was because, as he and the rest of the team had quickly discovered, Fitz was inhuman. Or at least, that’s what one would assume considering he, you know, didn’t die and stuff. And yet, nine days later, there was still not a single sign of any sort of... anything. He wasn’t having visions, he couldn’t move things with his mind, or read people’s thoughts, or anything cool like that. He just felt like normal Fitz, but a little sleepier.
The only considerable difference he’d noticed was that he was a tad angrier than usual, but that was to be expected after everything he’d been through. And being quarantined. Now he understood how Skye felt. However, the later it got, once all the doctors were away from the night and he was alone in his transparent cage, the thoughts grew steadily louder.
I don’t know why I put up with this.
It’s a necessary precaution, he reminded himself.
Screw that. Next time they come in here, fight them off and make a break for it.
That’s highly impractical. This is all for my personal safety.
Blah, blah, blah, he thought, beginning to hate his own mind a little more. He didn’t mean to think such horrible things, but couldn’t stop them from happening.
kill them all
Kill them all.
KILL THEM ALL.
“No!” Fitz sat straight up, eyes wide with fear. Fear of himself. Of the terrifying thoughts that wouldn’t leave him alone.
The voice began to chuckle in a low, maniacal tone, echoing in a way Fitz hadn’t hear before. That’s when he realised, it was because the sound was coming from the corner of the room.
