howdy everyone! i realized that my au’s going to be 2 years old in two more days, so im deciding to do something i never thought i would do on here, a art contest! the goal is to make something dedicated to my au! be it by doing art of it! or just making a slight short story! however you all may like! they’ll be three places for winners, even though this is open for anyone and more people could join! but i’ll only be selecting a few as the winners! as for the the places, they are- First place: Full Detailed Drawing Or Detailed story Second Place: Slightly Detailed Drawing But with no background colorings (or no background at all) Third and any other Place: Shaded Sketch now then! as for when it’ll end! i was originally going to end it on june 4th! but i feel like 2 days would be a bit too short! so i decided to end it on june 17th!~ giving ya’ll a lot of time if you all feel interested to do this! i’ll be reblogging this daily just so people won’t forgot, if you all feel like your not good enough art and writing wise but you still want to help out, just spread this around if you want too! the more people who see this the better! thank you all and hope to see you all take part in this!

Name: Roderich Earwyn Age: 28 Race: Merfolk Gender: Male Alignment: True neutral Height/length: Including the tail, 9 feet (274 cm) His human torso is about 2-2.5 feet. When in human form, 5′11 (180 cm) Weight: 165 lbs (74.8 kg) Build: Lean, barely any defined musculature Appearance: Normally, Roderich is a long tailed merman with a sleek black tail that has a dorsal fin as well as a fin that runs up the center of his spine and two smaller fins underneath. Both the fins and the end of the tail have a blue tint to them. This colour scheme extends to the smaller fins along his elbows, his earfins, and the scales here and there along his forearms and shoulders. His hands are webbed and clawed with longer fingers than that of a human. The skin of his human torso is pale with a blue tinge that is only noticeable above water. Below the surface, he almost looks as white as a ghost. His features are elegant, almost fragile looking as he has a high brow and cheekbones, and a Roman nose. His hair is a dark brown and in water almost always looks a mess but above it seems to hold in place unnaturally and feels almost feathery to the touch. His lips fall into a natural pout, but hide a row of dagger like sharp teeth with n’ary a molar in sight.
In human form, Roderich retains the earfins, blue-tinted skin, sharp teeth, and webbed hands. This form is only maintained by magic however and it drains his energy. At most he can hold it for eight hours before he needs to return to his usual state. Staying in water is not a necessity, though he will start to feel sick and lethargic if he does not at least wet himself down once a day. Best stats: Intelligence, Strength (He is a creature designed to drown prey and consume it) Worst stats: Dexterity (He is slower on land), Constitution (His health is very dependent on water) Class: Wizard History: Roderich was born as most merfolk are, from a pearl like egg around the size of a bowling ball in a small coastal cave. His parents were from a particularly secretive clan of merfolk who tended to hide even from others of their kind. They lived around a delta which flowed into a river and as such, could breathe and survive in both fresh and salt water after a period of adjustment. They spent most of their days hunting and living very simple lives while honing spells to manipulate fish and other sea life around them. Their magic stemmed from long passed down traditions that were said to originate from the lord of the Sea himself, Savinun. The god did not demand much of followers in exchange for these gifts aside from keeping the ocean free of those who would disturb its natural cycle. Merfolk of the Eastern Sea tend to follow this creed and thus typically hate trespassers, most notably humans. Often humans would find they were as easily preyed upon by merfolk as any unfortunate fish or seabird due to their siren calls and illusionary magic. However, Roderich always found himself at odds with his clan’s desire to remain hidden from the outside world. Though he felt no particular fondness for humans, he was always ceaselessly curious about what other lands existed and what further potential spells and magics he could discover. One year he ventured beyond the usual territory but was found out when he made to return. As a result, his clan cast him out and he was left to fend for himself. He spent several years alone in the ocean, braving many perils and nearly perishing when running into other clans and groups of merfolk as they did not take kindly to loners. Eventually, driven to desperation, he worked on a spell that would allow him temporary legs in order to traverse land and search out a place he could reside in peace. How he stumbled upon this job: Recently he had found a murky deep pond and had taken up residence in it while continuing his studies in relative solitude. Occasionally he would travel into town, dressed in a long dark cloak with the hood pulled up. Unfortunately spellbooks and other items that pulled his interest cost currency which he had none of and so he attempted to find ways to earn some for himself. A reward had been offered in a tavern which he had caught wind of. It was in exchange exchange for finding some hapless prince or something along those line. So he decided to look into the offer as surely it couldn’t be too difficult to search out one measly morsel human.
