 MEN,   SHE   HAS   LEARNED   OVER   THE   YEARS,     have   the   queer   proclivity   of   not   realising   when   they   wear   their   hearts   on   their   sleeves.   the   less   they   think   they   show,   the   more   they   reveal   in   truth.   marion   has   built   a   career   over   watching   people     ;     learning   what   they   like,   what   they   try   to   hide,   unearthing   desire   and   fear   both.   she   keeps   her   demeanour   pleasant,   pours   wine   for   them   both,   although   from   the   balcony   where   they   are   currently   sat,   her   gaze   does   drift   to   where   her   little   sapphire   is   in   the   process   of   terrorizing   various   merchants.         ❝     she   has   pulled   you   into   her   orbit   already,   yes   ??   she   has   a   habit   of   collecting   friends,   and   you   make   her   quite   happy,   mister   valkorvyn.   i   do   hope   the   same   can   be   said   for   her.     ❞         /         @aucrow

 SHE   REMEMBERS   HOW   WHEN   SHE   WAS     little   she   would   watch   the   ocean   from   the   window   of   her   room   for   hours.   how   the   waves   would   come   caress   the   shore   and   take   with   them   bits   of   shells   and   pebbles.   a   hat,   one   time.   a   book,   another.   impermanent   things,   things   lost   forever,   never   to   be   seen   again.   how   she   thinks   that   maybe   she   too   is   like   the   ocean     :     hoarding   bits   and   pieces   of   everyone   she   loves   inside   her   chest     ————     a   smile,   a   spell,   a   flask   magicked   to   never   empty,   the   way   the   bright   queen   had   cried   when   they   gave   back   her   beacon.   little   things   to   everyone   but   herself,   forgotten   things.   important   to   her   all   the   same.

 her   hands   twist   in   the   skirts   of   her   dress,   this   too   significant     :     rosohna   purple   like   essek’s   skin,   embroidered   with   mushrooms   like   the   ones   growing   from   caduceus’   staff.   maybe   she,   like   the   ocean,   is   meant   to   carry   the   burden   of   what   everyone   else   forgets.   morian   too,   seems   good   at   remembering     ;     he’s   got   the   look   of   someone   who   hoards   little   things.   the   sadness   too.

The statement is such that causes Atieno to take a moment to pause. To reflect on the meaning of such words.

"Suppose, it's all the better to get good at hiding that fear. Of keeping such fears and nervousness under control, under a restraint - so that it can be avoided. Or at least navigated around."

Leave it to Atieno to try and seek out a practical way of negotiating such situations. But if nothing else, they were pretty solid at maintaining a cooler composure.
