The room feels very, very quiet. Like all the air has been sucked out of it. 

He doesn’t ask for details. Doesn’t think to. Rafael has always been a big picture man, details were necessary to stitch things together, to paint it all in one big swathe. 

Nothing else needed to be painted here. Olivia was gone.

He thanks the officer who was the bearer of bad news, dropping to sit at his desk numbly. To look at his hands was to feel separated from his skin. Separated from himself. 

This couldn’t be happening. 

She was too good. Everything the world had seen fit to throw at her, and Olivia always came out stronger. This couldn’t be it. She couldn’t be gone. 

With shaking hands, Rafael pulls his desk drawer open. Inside is a tiny black velvet box. Inside that? A simple gold band with a single diamond. He could afford more, of course. But Liv wasn’t that kind of woman. She wouldn’t want something big and fancy. 

Two weeks, that ring has sat in his desk, Rafael always found an excuse not to ask. He was too busy. She was too busy. They were tired. The case was too big. 

Two weeks of hesitation, and now he’ll never know.

I don't think you're writing Liv as too bitchy. She tends to get a little sharp and upset whenever a case is very personal to her.

she does. one of my fave things about her is that she is So Not Here For Anyone’s Shit.  She’s rarely flat out a bitch, but she’s no one’s doormat.
