Unveiled: Audi SQ2 SUV Ahead Of Paris Debut
The biggest change in the Audi SQ2 compared to the standard Q2 comes in the form of its powertrain. The upcoming SUV will offer the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque. Description: German luxury automaker Audi has revealed the SQ2 SUV ahead of its official debut at the Paris motor show this month. The SQ2 has been spied testing at the Nurburgring on numerous occasions and had been confirmed by the Audi bosses at the annual Audi Press Conference back in March. The SUV will go on sale before the end of 2018 with the first deliveries commencing from early 2019. Also, the SQ2 is one of the first of 11 new Audi SUVs due for the launch before the end of 2019. The biggest change in the Audi SQ2 compared to the standard Q2 comes in the form of its powertrain. The upcoming SUV will offer the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The same engine is seen in the Audi S3 and is closely related to the engine in the Volkswagen Golf R and upcoming T-Roc R as well as the Seat Leon Cupra R. While the engine has a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 4.8 secs and a top speed of 250 kmph, Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system and a 7 speed DSG automatic gearbox also come as standard with the SUV. Apart from the new engine, the SQ2 SUV gets an all-new intake and exhaust camshafts and brakes upgraded to 340 mm for the front and 310 mm for the rear. Talking about the features, the Audi SQ2 SUV received subtle changes compared to the regular Q2. The changes include a slight reworking to the grille with SQ2 badging along with a unique 8-bar formation and black detailing along with a four tipped exhaust, while sitting lower to the ground by 20 mm. A new front low splitter, air inlets in black, LED headlamps with LED DRLs on the front and rear, a roof spoiler, and quad exhausts are the other highlights of the SUV. The car sits on standard 18-inch alloys, which can be upgraded to 19-inch alloys with the customization option. At the inside, the upcoming Audi SQ2 will be offered with a black headliner and black leather-and-Alcantara seats embossed with ‘S’ logos as well as extra bolstering providing support in faster corners, dashboard with Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital display as an option, traditional analogue dials and an infotainment screen come as standard features along with a premium sound system. The SUV also receives Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Assist as standard safety features making the car capable of steer, brake and accelerate itself at speeds of up to 64 kmph with everything under complete control of the driver. In terms of pricing, the automaker is yet to reveal the details but the base price of the SQ2 is likely to start at 35,000 euros in the international markets. However, the India launch of the SQ2 SUV doesn’t seem to be on the cards for the German automaker, though the standard Q2 is likely to make its way to the Indian market by early 2019. The Audi SQ2 SUV competes with the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 and the recently launched BMW X2 M35i in the segment. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the new Audi SQ2.
