Custom Champagne Cake for our Glamorous Dear Girl
This gorgeous “Golightly” girl here - Elizabeth Odom Baker - is celebrating her 31st birthday today, and we all celebrate with her a day early yesterday at The Peninsula Beverly Hills where I surprised her with a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s/ Holly Golightly”-themed custom champagne cake from Hansen Cakes.
There truly couldn’t be a better cake for our gal on her big day. Hansen’s, you truly outdid yourself. (Scroll through for details of this epic cake) 🎂
To know Elizabeth is to know fun, glamour, sophistication, whimsy & no filter (except in photos, of course). I met Elizabeth when I was in my late 20s working at Woo Skincare and Cosmetics Nashville in Nashville where she was a soon-to-be southern, social deb, and I was an LA expat/struggling musician/makeup artist trying to make enough money to make a country album.
The next year, when my dear friend Suzanne Karotkin Kilpatrick was looking for an intern while she was an editor at Harper's Bazaar, I immediately suggested Elizabeth...even though I wasn’t totally confident if this “Nashville debutante” could keep her crown on in the New York editorial world. She went on to become the star intern that summer, making me proud that I referred her and viewing her in an even more glowing light than I already did.
When she moved to LA, we kept in touch but not on a regular basis, as it sometimes goes. But last year, fate played a fun little prank on us with romantic scandal & the editing of true friends from superficial friends, and we forged a close friendship with many an adventure under its belt.
So, who is this lady who the girl I once knew has become? She is graceful...& gregarious. Fun...& fierce. Sophisticated...& sassy. Ravishing...& raucous. Comely...& candid. Haute couture...& honesty. Influential...& in her own class. Audrey Hepburn...AND, Holly Golightly. In other words, she’s a little of all of us - & a little of none of us - and she’s one of those celestial creatures who walk amongst us, reminding us what a modern lady looks like. As I often say, I only hope that when I have a daughter, she has half as much spunk as this gorgeous girl does.
To our “Glamorous Golightly” - as it says on the cake: May this be your sweetest year yet.🎂 #BOLDbh
