Amid the ocean breeze in Jensen’s hair, his heart racing beneath the pocket square of his tuxedo, and the hands he holds ever so dearly in his own, he can only truly focus on the pair of blue-green eyes staring back at him.
“Hi,” he grins, speaking perhaps quieter than he should for the occasion. “Thanks for coming,” he tells the man before him, as though either of them really had a choice.
That intro wasn’t part of the plan but it makes August smile wider so Jensen feels it was worth it. Several months ago he had written a general outline of what he wanted to say in this very moment but he didn’t bring it with him. He wanted most of it to be from his heart anyway.
Jensen opens his mouth to continue but a shaky chuckle escapes his lips instead. He leans in to touch his forehead to the older man’s and right away it helps him catch his breath.
“You still make me nervous,” he laughs quietly between them, “It’s the best feeling in the world.”
He closes his eyes for a second to bite back the tongue-tied heat welling inside of him just thinking about the words on his mind. His thumbs rub over August’s hands for a beat and then he’s able to pull back and speak louder for everyone gathered to see them that day.
“From the moment we met, I haven’t been able to stop looking to you. Not only because you’re ridiculously handsome, just so out of my league,” he laughs softly, eyes never leaving August’s. “But because you showed me from that very first day that you’re the one for me. Every part of you that was fun, daring, and thoughtful highlighted those parts of me too. And they haven’t stopped since.”
Jensen licks his lips, grounding himself in his partner’s gaze once more before he continues.
“You’re my favorite everything, August. My favorite person to wake up next to, my favorite drinking buddy, my favorite person to patch me up when I get lost in your eyes during a hike and sprain my ankle like an idiot,” he stops to chuckle and his cheeks nearly hurt from the gravity of his happiness. “You’re my favorite person to run, walk, and fly with. I want to make you happier than you ever thought you could be, now and forever.”
“I promise I’ll always be the best friend that you can have. I’ll always keep you on your toes but hold you tight when the tides get high. I’m going to love you more and more every day and I’m never going to stop- I hope that’s okay.”
Jensen feels a shiver run up his arms from how purely right he feels living in that moment. It’s otherworldly and makes him feel as though there is no one but him and August there, bound together.
He feels so elated that he leans in to kiss his grin to August’s lips, earning him a chastising from the officiant. But he doesn’t care. As he pulls back, Jensen steals just one more private moment with his soon-to-be husband so he can whisper a giddy, “I love you as ever.”
It’s August’s turn now, but as the waves crash to shore behind them, Jensen isn’t sure how it can get any more perfect than this.
