#tinypleasures2017 day 12: #home that's me and my car (his name is Stitch... like from "Lilo and Stitch") a weird picture for a post about home, i know. but I've never really felt like i have a home... i have a family that i love in a gorgeous state that is an afterthought to most people (and is probably the prettiest place you'll never visit: #idahome) but ive never felt that urge to put down roots. to establish myself as a fixture in my community. in fact, if i sit still for too long, it's physically painful for me and i become depressed. maybe its how i grew up? or maybe I'm defective? or maybe i see our culture for what it is... contrived. its a weird idea for sure. and trust me, it's even weirder to live it! i get called crazy and irresponsible a LOT and asked why i dont just accept my "adult responsibilities"? but i always end up asking: what are those "responsibilities" you speak of? children? they're sticky screaming shit-monsters who become sticky, mouthy teenagers (i know, i was one)... plus I've never had the maternal drive. #auntieforlife is it a mortgage? why, the very name means "death pledge"! cell phones, cable, internet, ostentatious life decoration... all arbitrary "responsibilities". yes, they make life easier, but do they make it richer? all of that spells struggle to me. my only REAL adult responsibilities are to pay off debt, add to my savings account, satisfy the tax man and adventure my ass off! #adultaf my most recent and probably favorite ex told me that i helped him redefine what home means for him and inspired him to live simply from his car while he guides hikes at Grand Canyon National Park. i think that is one of the things I'm most proud of in my life. helping 1 person think outside of the box we've been sold. my home is on 4 wheels and it takes me where my curiosity strays. #homeless what a strange concept. i'm not truly a vagrant; i currently pay for an apartment (which sits mostly empty for most of the day and sucks up half my pay) but in my heart and psyche, i have no home. and i prefer it that way. at least for now.
