Everyone says its hard to be a mom/dad. You know what's also hard?

To be an Aunt/Uncle. Do you know how hard it is to be both:

1. The Responsible, role model that would always have wise advises for life's problems.

2. The Cool Adult always on your side, buys you non-parent approved things, and does questionable things with you at an unreasonable time of the night.

Like how do you balance that out?! How can you be both?!

Me *helping my five year old niece, in kindergarten, review for her science exam* : Is Grandma a girl or a boy?

My niece: Girl!

Me: Good! Is Grandpa a boy or a girl?

My niece: Boy!

Me: Very Good! Is Uncle Dirk a boy or a girl?

My niece: Boy!

Me: That's my girl! Is Mama Niza a boy or a girl?

My niece: Girl!

Me: My clever baby! Now, am I a boy or a girl?

My niece: ...

Me: ...

My niece: ... Girl...?

I have no idea how to react to this, I am torn because:

A. Thank you for not just assuming my gender, and

B. Do I seriously NOT LOOK LIKE A GIRL?!

Aunt's fam problems:

Too young to customize a tiny pumpkin,can get a tiny bag of candy. Also...they pamper their girls like princesses,dont do the same for boys.

My little boy is starting preschool soon... this aunt is not ready for that! He's grown up so much it makes me so proud, but so sad to.
