This isn't really an unpopular opinion but it upset me. After I got Beau (who is an OTTB), I had had Mazzuri for about 2-3 months and we all agreed it would be a good idea to have project whilst I was gaining confidence and learning on Mez because we weren't sure how long she might have left in her, being 23, (I'm pretty sure she has 2-3 really good years in her) for doing shows and all that jazz (currently we're doing 30cm jumps and she's a powerhouse lmao).
So when I had gotten Beau, this lady who was at the agistment before us (but had been to the one we were at previously, we sorta knew her) basically told me that Mazzuri "is too old and will need to be put out to pasture in a few months now that I have Beau, I can work with a younger horse" Like, really woman. I got Mazzuri to learn and gain confidence on and Beau to bring up slowly so I'd have something to ride more frequently when Mez is retired and it upset me because Mez really does have a few good years left and is teaching me so much and helped me get over a bad lease horse, she's worth her weight in gold, she doesn't have any arthritis (can be a lil stiff when warming up but she's good after that), she trail rides, jumps and is tanking me to my first comp. It just seems people underestimate an older horse!
Yeah, people who mostly work with younger horses tend to think that horses need to be retired much earlier than they do. Retirement depends solely on the horse and its health, ability to be in work, etc. Not age. Some horses need to be retired at like 4 or 5, others go well into their late twenties or thirties or even longer. I don't think anyone except the owner, trainer, vet and perhaps a barn owner would be able to accurately say what would be best.
Also, I never put my hair in my helmet! It wouldn't fit anyway and It doesn't bother me at all if I tie it on a side ponytail or plait when riding. I'm not trying to impress anyone lol
Tbh, I'd feel stupid if I put my hair in my helmet because everywhere I ride right now is not a show barn. They're all relatively quiet private barns or small scale boarding barns that are not filled with h/j riders. So anyone who was there would just be like... K? Also, no "big name trainers" in my circuit are going to show up there, I know lots of people on here use that as an excuse to look A+ all the time, but it isn't gonna happen to me so i don't care haha. Plus, I don't like to, so that is pretty much all the reason I need haha.
Honestly, who even cares what you wear at the barn, like, they only time I dress more decent is at a lesson or riding out. Every other day, it's just comfy riding clothes and you never come back clean unless you do nothing there anyway :P
Lmao, apparently people on tumblr care enough to send nasty messages about it. The entire attitude about having to look perfect even when schooling is fricking ridiculous, especially considering I wasn't in a lesson or anything or at a show barn etc. I was simply riding for fun. It's so freaking stupid, schooling is simply working on getting better for the horse and the rider and so long as your attire is safe and comfortable for you and the horse, I don't see why people care.
I see poorly dressed people (in my opinion) all of the time. Do I say anything to them or even to anyone else? No. I don't care, their clothing only affects them and how others view me. My schooling clothes 90% of the time look clean and professional either way. I won't put my hair in my helmet to school because I don't like it.
People can learn to suck it up and stop allowing other people's personal choices to affect their mood.
