Quite probably!

There are definitely some cases where orthodontia is necessary. If the crowding or impaction affect the shape of the palate, for instance, that can mess up speech. If a twisted tooth is painful, braces are worth it- and if you have huge gaps, braces can help shrink food traps and lead to fewer dental health conditions down the line. Conversely, if the teeth are SUPER crowded, it can make proper brushing a problem, which often leads to cavities down the line. Also, if you have a scissor bite or have molar alignment problems, it makes chewing difficult. Those are examples of cases that are medically advisable.

But as many as 80% of American kids get braces and of those, most don’t need them. Straight white teeth are considered socially desirable, but from a health perspective, most peoples’ unique smiles are just a natural part of human variation and don’t require intervention.

Don’t think I’ve answered it in a long time, actually! Her tail is there, just hard to see in the video. It’s pretty short and it’s crooked. Here’s a blurry pic that shows it pretty well - 

It’s got a couple good kinks in it and it’s fairly stiff. The vet said it was likely a birth defect, and it’s not the only one - she’s also missing a toe on her left front paw (the thumb toe, on the inside of the paw), and her toe that would be right next to that (the pointer finger one, basically) has an extra thick claw that doesn’t retract.

I didn’t think about it until the post Bluebell​ made about manx tails & Manx syndrome, but I do wonder if she’ll have more issues with arthritis in her tail as she gets older, due to how stiff it is. She doesn’t like to have it handled much, though you can touch it now without an immediate attack as long as you don’t mess with it too long & listen to her “okay, done”. 

I’m also thinking she may eventually need that thick claw removed - we try to keep it trimmed down, but it just won’t retract and I worry that it’s causing too many issues for her toe. The vet didn’t suggest any solutions when we had x-rays taken of her paw, but did say that the toe was very slightly dislocated & I feel like it’s from the claw being too large & getting in the way of things. 

She’s due for a wellness exam, and I want to switch everyone to a new vet. So once I can get calls & appointments made, and have records sent to the right places, I want to get her in to see what new vet thinks about it and ask them about declawing that toe and pros/cons.

my cornish rex has nearly bald patches (very very short sparse hair even by her breed standard) extending from just above her eyebrow whiskers to her ears. do normal cats have shorter hair up there too? if not, why i my cat like this?

Most cats have thinner fur in the space between their upper eyelid and the opening of their ears. It’s normal anatomy, but becomes more obvious with age and in shorter furred cats. Look at 19 year old Dippa for example.
