AVAX Drops 11% as Avalanche Foundation Announces Eligibility Framework for Meme Coins
The Avalanche Foundation is making waves in the world of cryptocurrency by introducing an "eligibility framework" for meme coins. In a recent post on the X platform, the foundation expressed its commitment to identifying legitimate meme coin projects and differentiating them from potential frauds. Meme coins, which have a playful nature and are often associated with dog-themed tokens, have attracted a lot of attention in the crypto industry.
To ensure credibility, the foundation has been buying meme coins with funds from its $100 million "Culture Catalyst" fund. However, it also recognizes the importance of establishing criteria. The three-page rule set outlines specific requirements, such as being native to the Avalanche blockchain and independent of their creators. Other criteria include decentralized token distribution, having over 2,000 holders, more than $200,000 in liquidity, a market value exceeding $1 million, and a daily trading volume of at least $100,000.
Although the guidelines are negotiable, compliance with them cannot guarantee a meme coin's adoption. Starting from January 2024, meme coins will need to meet these minimum requirements. This move is a strategic effort by the Avalanche Foundation to navigate the volatile meme coin sector and distinguish genuine projects.
