My week-plus run of guitar fever ends today with this album that goes in a completely different direction from the rest of the guitar comp landscape at the time. Essentially, this is the American underground producing its own wigged-out version of guitar virtuoso, and like GV itself, it’s not the most enjoyable, compelling, or palatable. But there are still instances on here when things get more relaxed and conventional, and that’s when they connect. Includes Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips, J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr, Kim Gordon and Thuston Moore from Sonic Youth, Steve Albini, and more.
