Hello it's my first time doing a request so idk if I'm doing this right, but can you please do a recoms x single mom reader, like how would they interact with reader and her kid/kids
Pairing: poly recoms x mum reader
A/n: hiya my love thank you for the request 😊 I hope you enjoy ☺️
Life on Pandora isn’t built for families, but somehow you make it work.
You move through the base with your kids close to you — one holding your hand, the other trailing just behind. Most soldiers don’t know how to act around children, especially here.
But the recom squad?
They adapt in their own ways.
⸻
Miles Quaritch
At first, he keeps his distance. Not cold — just… careful. He watches the way you manage everything: missions, responsibilities, and still somehow kneeling down to wipe dirt off your kid’s face or tie their shoe.
One afternoon your youngest wanders a little too close to him. “Mom says not to bother the scary soldiers,” the kid blurts out. You freeze in horror. Quaritch stares at them for a moment… then snorts. “Your mom’s got good instincts.”
After that, he softens around them in small ways. If the kids are nearby, he lowers his voice. If things get chaotic, he makes sure they’re kept out of danger. He won’t admit it, but he respects the hell out of you.
⸻
Lyle Wainfleet
Lyle immediately becomes the “fun one.” Your kids adore him within hours. He lets them climb on him, hang from his arms, tug his tail while laughing. Sometimes he’ll lift both of them onto his shoulders and walk around the base like he’s giving them a grand tour.
“Lyle!” you scold one day. “They’re not monkeys.”“Could’ve fooled me,” he laughs as your kids cling to him. But the moment one of them cries or gets hurt, he’s instantly gentle — crouching down, wiping tears, talking softly until they calm down. He treats them like they matter. And that means everything.
⸻
Mansk
Mansk is the quiet presence. Your kids are curious about him because he doesn’t talk much. They’ll sit nearby while he cleans his gear, watching every movement like it’s fascinating.
One day your oldest finally asks, “Why are you so quiet?”He pauses… then says simply, “Thinking.” Your kid nods like that makes perfect sense. After that they’ll sit beside him sometimes in comfortable silence. He doesn’t mind.
⸻
Fike
Fike treats the kids like an audience. He tells exaggerated stories, makes dramatic sound effects, and pretends every small thing is part of some huge adventure.
“See that rock?” he whispers to them. “Definitely alien eggs.” Your kids gasp. You roll your eyes. But they laugh constantly around him, and he loves being the one who can distract them when the stress of Pandora starts creeping in.
⸻
Lopez
Lopez naturally steps into a gentle role. If one of your kids scrapes their knee or gets overwhelmed, he’s the one kneeling beside them with calm reassurance.
“Hey, breathe with me,” he says softly. He also keeps an eye on you. If you’re carrying too much, juggling too many things at once, he’ll quietly take something off your hands. You don’t even have to ask.
⸻
Prager
Prager tries to act like he’s not good with kids. “Don’t look at me,” he mutters the first time one of them walks up. Then your youngest hands him a small rock they found. “For you.” He stares at it. “…Thanks.”
The rock stays in his pocket after that. He doesn’t talk much, but if anyone ever scares your kids or gets too rough around them, Prager is suddenly right there.
⸻
Brown
Brown becomes the reliable one. If something breaks, he fixes it. If the kids need help carrying something, he helps.
If they’re tired, he lifts them up without complaint. He’s steady, calm, and patient — the kind of presence that makes both you and your kids feel safe.
⸻
Ja
Ja connects with them emotionally. He listens when they talk about missing home or feeling scared of the jungle at night. Sometimes he’ll tell them quiet stories about the stars or Pandora’s creatures, his voice soft enough that they slowly relax beside him.
One night your youngest falls asleep leaning against him. He stays completely still so he doesn’t wake them. When you come to pick them up, he smiles gently. “They trust you,” you say. He nods. “And you.”
