Boasting a variety of sounds, Avely’s latest full-length Shatter goes from high-energy punk rock (“Tongue Tie”) to smoother, slower jams (“Fake Love”) in such a way to intrigue the listener rather than confuse them. No matter the tempo, the most apparent aspect of the band is their unmistakable passion – they even turned one of their fans into the band’s namesake. (more…)

Avely spent a lot of time working on these songs and their hard work shines through. “Shatter” is just a taste of what these guys are capable of and foreshadows a bright future ahead for them. Three songs on “Shatter” that you should make a priority to listen to are Tongue Tie, Bleedout, Stop The Car, Numb, and Homesick.
Interview with Jaime Dever of Avely:
1. Introduce yourself and tell us your role in the band.
My name is Jaime Dever and I sing and play guitar.
2. “Shatter” is your latest release, what was the process of creating this record like?
It was a long road to the finished product, but it was a natural and organic writing process. Some of the songs we had been writing for almost two years. We didn't try and go for any particular sound, we just wrote what we wrote and that was that. There was almost an 'anything goes' type of mindset. We brought a lot of different riffs and parts to the table that we may have never even considered using a few years ago. The songs on "Shatter" are kind of all over the place but we were stoked on that. A lot of our favorite records have that kind of diversity in them so we tried to keep that in mind while writing to keep out minds open to anything and not be monotonous. We recorded with Nick Bellmore at his recording studio Dexter's Lab in Milford, CT and it was such and awesome experience. He has recorded records from bands like Hatebreed, Make Do and Mend, and Death Threat so we were very excited to get in the studio with him. We had never recorded with someone of his caliber before so we were a bit nervous about what it would be like but he was such an easy guy to work with and brought a lot of awesome ideas to the table. He really helped to make the record the best that it could be. We put a lot of hard work into "Shatter" and we couldn't be more happy with how it turned out.
3. What’s your favorite song on the record and why?
I'd say probably 'Fake Love'. It's the most different song we have ever written and it's also really fun to play.
4. Which song do you recommend for new listeners who want to get a feel of what Avely is all about?
"Watch You Disappear". We have some fast songs and some slower songs but I think this is kind of in the middle of everything, if that makes sense.
5. How does this album differ from your “False Hope” EP?
"Shatter" was a much higher quality record, both in the quality of the recording and quality of the songs themselves. We took a lot more time crafting these songs.
6. You released this record totally independently right? Do you have any advice for bands that want to get started by releasing music independently, but aren’t sure how to?
Yes, we released it on our bandcamp page without a label behind it. I'd have to say just promote it the absolute best you can, because with no one behind you the only one who are going to promote your music is you.
7. What does Avely have planned for the summer? Any tour plans coming up?
We have a few shows lined up and are still booking more, but we have something in the works for the end of summer so keep an eye out for that!
8. Name three bands you wish to tour with in the future?
Right now off the top of my head I'd have to say The Menzingers, Pup and Saves the Day. The Menzingers is one of my favorite bands right now and their new record is great. I saw Pup with The Menzingers on their tour and they were the tightest band I have seen in a really long time. I was blown away. Check them out if you don't know who they are! Saves the Day is one of our collective all-time favorite bands and it would just be rad to tour with them. They actually played an acoustic set in our friend's back yard last year and they seemed like they would be cool guys to hang out with.
9. So we always ask zombie questions, who in the band would be least likely to survive in the zombie apocalypse?
100%, without a doubt, Tim. I love him to death, but I don't know if he can even boil water, let alone fight off zombies
.
10. What would be your weapon of choice?
A shotgun of course. Or a flamethrower 'cause that'd be rad.
Please check out our new record "Shatter" on our bandcamp page (avelymusic.bandcamp.com), itunes, spotify or whatever other music site you may prefer, it's on a bunch of different sites, and please share it and help us spread it around! Keep an eye out for some tour dates near you this summer and come hang out at a show!
