some sketches of more updated averos designs, plus some design notes for myself and some updated biology. some of these details might get bent a little for variety's sake, but I'm happy with where this is going. I didn't necessarily scrap the last design draft, more built off of it. and gave some varieties their ear flaps back. some varieties still possess those feather "ears"
their crests got a big glow-up. instead of being the same-ish size and design, they have the potential for a lot of different looks, from crests being more horn-like to some being mainly for amplifying their voices. also has the added bonus of not stressing out when designing any potential background characters
they are also no longer a two-sexed species like the saephins, and are instead unisex, having two sets of reproductive organs with both egg cells and sperm cells
they wouldn't all knuckle-walk either, but it is neat to draw from non-primate knuckle-walking species. I wanted the prehistoric animal look to stand out above any primate design influences that would be present. so I avoided using primates as references, because the shape is too familiar to my eyes
and I kept the beak-teeth because it looks weirder. I like the idea of the pointed parts shaping into sabres like with gorgonopsids, but because they have so much variety now their teeth can be many shapes
now I need to figure out what they would wear
