Oh hey.
Reminiscing on being made new with my then future husband.
Gonna get mahself a birfday cake latte.
What are you and your husband's thoughts on mike brown shooting and ferguson altogether since he wants to be a cop?
To be honest it freaks me out a little bit. I think policeman are necessary and can be and SHOULD be respectable. A lot of forces get a really bad reputation because of the misuse of power by a minority of police officers...but there are, as well as in ANY PROFESSION EVER, people in the profession whose motives are tainted and/or should not be doing what they are doing. I am excited for Luke to be a police officer. He is all about order, structure, justice, as well as LOVE, MERCY, GRACE! I am stoked for him to be in a field that will allow him to enforce those standards! But he is walking into an imperfect field, and it is going to be a challenge and a half to be a light in a field such as this!
I can't say he will never make a mistake, maybe even a mistake that would end a person's life. That risk comes with the job.... When people fear for their lives, as police officers OFTEN do, you'd like to think you would stay cool and collected, on your toes, and ready for NECESSARY action, but it's hard to say.
Shooting people in cold blood is another matter completely.... I don't know the reasons why the police used deadly force on these men.. I just don't. I don't know if they truly thought these men were being a danger to themselves or others... In Police Academy they show video after video of police officers making deadly mistakes that take their own lives, or even misusing their own power to take another's. The warnings are there and so are the standards. I pray for justice, that if these men were killed in cold blood that justice will be served (I mean God is the ultimate justice system so my prayers will be answered...)
Luke and I talk and pray OFTEN about what may be necessary in his line of work. It may someday look like shooting someone. Or laying down his life for a brother or sister. Or walking away because of our convictions and leaving police work all together. I do know that police officers are supposed to hold each other accountable, and provide justice even within the force!
Luke will be following Jesus and being a police officer for the glory of God. I can't say thats the same for all cops, but if anything that should help Luke know he is going to be in the right place and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through him, PRAISE!
I don't know. There is a lot to this question. Hope this answered it?
