Because there was that. Steve didn’t know that Tony existed.
Steve thought that Rhodey was the one who did all of the baking of the goods – which was quite frankly laughable – whilst Tony hid in the back every time that the man walked through the door.
He also stared wistfully through the small window to the kitchen, but Tony definitely never went outside to talk to any of his customers. No way.

Well, Tony wouldn't really call it a 'relationship', since the sorcerer barely had the time to meet up with him between dimension-hopping, learning incantations, meditating, training, or whatever it is he did with the other wizards. Often, Tony would wonder if Stephen was doing it on purpose; avoiding him, rejecting his offers for dates in excuse of other urgent matters, but it didn't stop the engineer's efforts to be as close as possible to him.
That last statement was proven tonight, where he stood in front of the Sanctum with flowers in hand. He meant it to be a surprise date, hoping Stephen would agree without objections.
