*rubs hands together* Time to exercise all of this useless, extraneous headcanon about this ficverse!
Time to meet Akaashi Daisuke!
For anyone who read the story, Daisuke is Keiji’s older brother. He’s twenty-one, and currently enrolled in college after receiving an invitation by the school’s baseball club. Not a scholarship, but a ‘if you go here, you’re definitely going to play first string right away.’ Since this is what Daisuke has always seemed interested in, and the Akaashis are fairly well-off, he ends up going to college to get that souvenir of a degree that Keiji mentioned in the story.
While not exactly an idiot, Daisuke has never been studious, so landing in college despite being a lifetime Class 2/3 kind of guy is a stroke of luck for Daisuke’s future. Now that he’s at the college level, he’s less sure of his chances to make the pros, but he remains hopeful but grateful that he majored in something (communications) other than beer funnels.
Daisuke, like any boy his age, is a fan of drinking. This is how he met Ayume, the girl in the story he is considering asking to marry him. One night after a resounding victory, courtesy of Daisuke’s own walk-off double in the bottom of the tenth inning, the team is celebrating a little too hard. Enter the aforementioned beer funnels.
Cue Daisuke waking up in the hallway of one of the science buildings without pants and most of his dignity. Imagine the surprise of the teacher’s aide in charge of getting the classroom next to where Daisuke was sleeping when she a naked ass propped up against the door. But, not being of the easily shaken sort (she has four brothers and a strong stomach), she shakes our intrepid hero (re: village idiot) awake and offers him her sweater to cover himself until he can locate his pants.
Then he pukes on her shoes and cries.
Ayume wonders if there is enough coffee in the world to deal with this as she sighs and drags Daisuke into a maintenance closet to wake him up with the mop bucket hose. And to wash the barf off of her slippers. When he’s a little more awake, Daisuke tries to apologize but she’s having none of it. She scolds him for making her late and tells him to get back to his dorm before the school kicks him out for indecency.
Mostly just glad she’s not going to report him for acting like a dumbass (and not being legally old enough to drink), Daisuke does as he’s told but doesn’t forget this act of kindness. Or what drinking out of a beer funnel does to him. So he decides to repay her in the only way he knows how. For Valentine’s Day, he managed to find a candy maker who would make a dozen white-chocolate irises, which he presented to Ayume at the same time and place he’d met her the first time.
Of course, Ayume is allergic to chocolate of all kinds, but Daisuke has no way of knowing that as she flings them as far away from her as she can when she opens the box. But when she sees his face fall, she feels bad, so she says, “How about you take me out to dinner, instead?”
Nodding emphatically, Daisuke thanks her for not hating him until she waves him off mid-sentence. When he is like...huh? she mentions the fact that they don’t even know each other’s names.
Two years later, Daisuke is wandering around tourist shops in San Francisco when he happens upon an exquisite abalone shell necklace that will cost about half of his pocket money for the year, but that’s when he decides to do it. He buys it and, a few days after they return from the trip and Daisuke gets back to school, he proposes to Ayume (with her father’s blessing because he’s a baseball fan, lol) with the necklace instead of a ring because rings are too old school for a couple who set up their first date before they knew each other’s names and she saw his dick before his eye color.
Currently, they’re still happily in a long-term engagement in my headcanon, with no intentions of marrying until they’re both out of college and career-bound.
