Truth is, Natasha wasn’t having as much fun as Bruce may have thought.
Especially when their eyes met & she caught the expression in his face. He didn’t have to tell her how he felt——Natasha saw it in the way he looked at her, the way he acted. She was good at reading people but not so good with matters of the heart, it seemed.
Maybe going for the jealousy route wasn’t the best idea… at least, not with Bruce. Giving up her pursuit with the man in her company, she politely excused herself before making her way toward Bruce, smiling at him invitingly as she approached him, two beers in hand.
❝ You’re not having a lot of fun, are you? ❞ she says, handing him his bottle of beer as if apologizing for being distracted & leaving him on his own.
The doctor just smiles, and although it was small it was good-natured. She could do what she liked with who she pleased, he knew this, and he wasn't the type of man to let his jealousy cloud his actions. He had no authority concerning who she concerned herself with, but it still hurt somewhat seeing her with another man. He was jealous, it was obvious, and he chastised himself for being so. ❝Not particularly.❞ He really did dislike these charity events that Tony dragged them to -- socializing was not his thing, especially in crowded rooms hence why he'd parked himself in his own designated 'safe' zone, off to the side of the room with little to no people present. He takes the beer, fiddling with the label. ❝I never do. But, it doesn't matter. Are you having fun?❞
