biography.
azizi's mothers met in college through a mutual friend. the vivacious layla won over the more serious alexandra, and the pair began a passionate romance soon after. they simply couldn't imagine a life without each other - even if that's precisely what their families want. with layla's family trying to arrange a marriage between her and another beta closer to her wealth and family status, and alexandra's family not liking the idea of their daughter being with a beta, they found they had very few people in their corner. but they had each other, and that was ultimately enough for the girls to elope and move out to new york together.
layla landed a job as a fashion magazine editor, while alexandra followed her dreams and became a teacher. they lived in a gorgeous brownstone together, with a couple of cats and a true sense of contentment with their lives. and it was into this environment that azizi was born. the baby was a surprise, but a welcome one indeed. azizi grew up perhaps a little spoiled, but unconditionally loved and supported. their every interest was supported, there was never at any point worry that their parents might not accept their identity, it was truly the best upbringing a child could have.
despite this environment, though, azizi still grew up rather isolated. they were always seen as the odd one out by their peers - always a little detached, too quiet or spacey for other kids to really want to hang out. azizi didn't always mind this, they valued their alone time, but it stung from time to time. they graduated high school without any close friends, and graduated college in a similar state - there were a few people they kind of clicked with, but they hadn't made any of the connections they truly wanted.
for a few years, azizi worked with layla at the magazine, but they ultimately came to realize that editing wasn't their passion. it took some months of self-searching, but ultimately the beta came to realize they wanted to strike out and start something completely new, all on their own. with their mothers' blessings and support, azizi decided to relocate. initially, the plan had been to move out to portland, where alexandra's brother and his children lived, but after one of their cousins took them to juniper bay to visit the drive-in, they fell in love with the town.
azizi bought an old shop downtown, with an apartment on the second floor, and decided to try and make a career out of their oldest hobby - antiquing. odd ends was born, and the rest is history. azizi has settled into their new home nicely, finally making the connections they've been craving. they know just about everyone in town now, and often when getting new pieces for the shop they'll find little things that remind them of one person or another and gift it to said person the next time they see them. juniper bay is lucky to have azizi - and azizi is lucky to have juniper bay, in turn.
