A Herd of Young Deer Crossing a Street in Pincher Creek by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While watching a heard of young deer cross a street intersection at an Airbnb location I was staying in Pincher Creek, Alberta.

It's That First Time in Nature That It Hooks You! (Denali National Park & Preserve) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: What I’d call a medium wide angle view (50mm) and image captured looking to the southeast from a side porch viewing area in the North Face Lodge area while staying a few days in Denali National Park & Preserve. My thinking with this image was to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, capturing more of a sweeping view across the autumn colors that were starting to come out across the tundra in this part of the national park. I would have a little bit of blue skies above but wanted to minimize that as I felt it was more of a negative space. I was though able to capture the full breath of the mountain peaks to my front with Mount Brooks on the image left leading all the way to Denali on the image right. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.

I Experienced Northern Hospitality in Denali National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view looking to the south-southeast from a balcony view in the North Face Lodge area in Denali National Park & Preserve. My thinking with this image was to use an average wide-angle view looking across this tundra as it led to some nearby hilltops and ridgelines, before coming to the snowcapped peaks of Denali and the Alaska Range. While there were some clouds around those peaks, I was able to use the ClearView Tool in DxO PhotoLab 3 to bring some clarity to them. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.

Breathtaking Views with the Waters of Black Bay (Voyagers National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Stretching Across the Horizon. An image captured extending to the south-southeast across the waters of Black Bay while walking around the Rainy Lake Visitor Center in Voyagers National Park. The waters and overcast skies had that minimalist feel, so I felt it brought more of a focus to the islands and trees in the center of the image.

Undeniably an American Masterpiece (Lassen Volcanic National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While hiking along the Kings Creek Falls Trail with a view looking to the south-southeast at the namesake creek flowing by. This is located in Lassen Volcanic National Park. What drew me into this setting was the way the view opened to my front amongst the nearby evergreen trees and Kings Creek as a leading line into the image. The rest was the shadows cast, whether from the trees or in the grassy meadow. I loved the “texture” that all created and worked to process this in both DxO PhotoLab 8 and Color Efex Pro.

Tales and Adventures of Exploring Joshua Tree National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: In Joshua Tree National Park with a view looking to the south-southeast across the mountain desert landscape present in this part of the national park. This location is at Keys View. In composing this image, I took advantage of the layers that I felt were present with the ridges and spurs coming off the main mountainside. I angled my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward to bring the horizon higher into the image and also minimize any artifacts from the morning sun across my camera lens. I used the ClearView tool in DxO PhotoLab 6 to cut through the haze present and even bring out a distant view of the Salton Sea that had some low clouds over it.
